Dress Code Policy

Updated August 27th, 2024
As we prepare for the start of the school year we wanted you to have this information.

Students are expected to follow the dress code (below) EVERYDAY. This includes picture day unless specified.

There are a few days throughout the year designated school-wide dress up days and parents are notified of those days in advance (spirit week, class prize days, etc).

We are committed to providing the BEST environment possible to foster student success. We believe that the implementation of this dress code policy supports that goal. We thank you in advance for your support of the policy and expectations.

To ensure an equitable environment that is conducive to learning and free from distraction, each student must follow the dress code at Ethos Academy.

Please review this dress code with your child prior to the first day of school:

Uniforms

Uniform polo shirts embroidered with the Ethos Academy logo are required.
- Uniform polo shirt colors are red, black and gray.
- Uniform polo shirts are sold in the Ethos Academy front office throughout the year for $12 per shirt. (Debit/credit, cash, and/or personal checks are accepted payment methods).

Sagging pants or shorts are not acceptable. Pants/shorts are not to drag on the ground. Denim, sweatpants, basketball shorts and cargos of any kind are not permitted.

Blankets and wraps may not be brought to school.

Religious Accomodations

Students needing a religious accommodation or other exception from the dress code must submit to the Director, in writing, a request for such accommodation or exception and the basis for the request.

Students that are in violation of the dress code will be sent to the office and parents will be called to bring clothing within the dress code expectations. In order to protect instructional time, if parents can not be reached, the student will be loaned donated clothing items that adhere to the dress code that need to be washed and returned to school.

As your child grows out of his/her uniform, if your child’s uniform clothes are in good condition we would like to ask you to please donate them to the front office.

If your family is in need of uniform items please contact Mr. Javier Bravo, Dean of Families to see how we can best support your child. Dress Code Violation Form- After 3, $5 replacement cost.

Let us thank you for your ongoing support and being a part of the Ethos community.

Backpacks and Cell Phone Policy

The safety and security of all students and maintaining a safe learning environment, remain our top priorities at Ethos Academy. The school closures during the past two and a half years have created unprecedented academic and social challenges for many of our scholars. This last year we have seen an increase in targeted behaviors across grade levels and one group of students most affected by school closures and the social impact(s) associated with the COVID -19 pandemic has been our 5th graders & middle school students.

To that end, we need your support as we are making every effort to help our scholars to focus this year on growing academic strength with the least amount of negative behavior incidents possible.

We are grateful for your understanding that some items students bring in their backpacks as well as cell phones are a distraction to the learning environment and waste instructional time that we work hard to protect in the classroom. Note: Grades K-4 students are allowed to continue using traditional backpacks.

We are asking that all 5th - 8th grade students:

DO NOT Bring Backpacks

Teachers have made preparations for academic work to be completed during school hours, using school provided materials. Teachers report that students do not need backpacks, they are simply a distraction to the learning environment. We always hope to see our students carrying a book each day to read for pleasure (no backpack needed) and occasionally a teacher will send work home if a student did not complete the requirements in class.

Students participating in an extracurricular activity are permitted to carry bags to store items pertaining to their particular activity (i.e. band, athletics, etc.).

Small purses or pouches for personal items are allowed, however the maximum size for these bags that students in grades 5-8 are permitted to carry during the school day, such as lunch kits, pencil bags and purses, will be 4.5” x 6.5”.
Bag size acceptable
Bags not acceptable
Bags not acceptable too

DO NOT Bring Cell Phones

Please have students leave cell phones at home. Students are allowed to use school telephones to contact parents/guardians. We understand sometimes it is necessary for a student to bring a cell phone to campus, it must be powered completely off upon arrival and stored.
